As of August 17, Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer be supported with IE 11. The first consequence is that only the Light version of the Outlook Web App will be available to users with a Microsoft account.

After August 17, the Outlook Web App can still be used for users with an AAD account in combination with Internet Explorer 11, but will no longer receive any new functions from then on. Users with a Microsoft account will be redirected to the Light version of the Outlook Web App.

The changes are due to the end of support for Microsoft 365 on IE 11. Microsoft announced that last year and is now making details known. Starting August 17, users may experience issues with Microsoft 365 services, or stop connecting altogether, if they use IE 11, the company writes. Support is then no longer available; users must switch to the Edge browser, or another supported web browser.

The ability to open SharePoint files with IE11 or File Explorer will also change from August 17. The function will still work, but will not be further developed. Microsoft advises users to switch to a modern browser. All other apps and services will be phased out on IE 11 in the ‘weeks and months after’. Each app and service will have its own schedule for this, according to Microsoft. At the end of last year, Microsoft stopped supporting Teams in combination with IE 11.
