UPC lets Android users watch live TV

UPC has released a version of the Horizon app for Android. This allows users to watch live TV, among other things; a Horizon subscription is not required. The app does not work on older Android devices.

The app was released on Tuesday, after being delayed several times. The application is available for Android 4.0 and newer; older Android devices are therefore not supported. While the live TV functionality is included in the Horizon app, it will work even if users don’t have a Horizon subscription. However, it is necessary to have a subscription to digital TV from UPC. Although UPC now also offers digital TV unencrypted, those subscriptions are not supported by the app. In addition, users must be connected via a UPC connection to use the live TV functionality. UPC’s hotspot network, which runs on customer routers, is not supported.

Furthermore, the app allows users to record TV programs remotely. In the future, the app may also be used to use UPC’s Program Missed functionality from within the app; with this, TV programs can be watched, whether or not for a fee. The app was already out for iOS.
