Sony sells over a million PlayStation 4s a month

Sony has sold over a million PS4s a month in recent months. This is evident from the quarterly figures of the electronics maker. Thanks to the PS4, the number of consoles sold by Sony doubled compared to the same period last year.

Of the 4.1 million consoles Sony sold in the summer months, 3.3 million were a PS4. That’s 1.1 million latest-generation PlayStations per month. This made it the most successful months for PS4 sales since its release in the last months of last year, when Sony sold 4.5 million PS4s, according to the quarterly results.

Sony appears to have virtually stopped the decline in Xperia smartphone sales. This decrease is only 1 percent compared to the same period last year. Sony shipped 9.9 million Xperia smartphones, compared to 10 million in the same period a year ago. On the previous occasions when Sony presented quarterly figures, the declines in deliveries were much higher.

However, that doesn’t mean things are going well. Sony makes a loss with its smartphone branch and therefore writes down almost 1.3 billion euros on the mobile division. Sony suffered a loss of almost one billion euros as a whole, with a turnover of almost 14 billion euros.
