On their SourceForge page we read that the Wine developers have released a new version of their program. Wine is a Windows implementation for Unix that allows Linux and FreeBSD owners to run their favorite Win32 applications without installing Microsoft’s operating system.

The new version, numbered 20030508, is a developers release. Since Wine is open source, anyone who wants to can help with development by downloading such a developer release and fixing bugs. The releases are also very suitable for people who like to have the very latest on their system. The following changes have been made in the new version:

– Some more reorganizations of the source tree.
– A few more steps towards kernel/ntdll separation.
– Many Direct3D improvements.
– More compatible COM interfaces definitions.
– Lots of bug fixes.[break]Currently, of all the supported distributions, SuSe is the only one with no RPMs available yet. If you’re running SuSe and want this release, you’ll have to compile it yourself. Both the source and available RPMs are here pick up.
