RealVNC, which is the successor of WinVNC, has received a new version. This time with the version number 3.3.7 where a number of important changes have been made. The program can be used to remotely control another computer. This can happen cross-platform, for example from Windows to Linux and vice versa. You take over the desktop of the other computer so that it looks like you are physically behind it. The release notes let us know the following:

Improvements and additional functionality in 3.3.7

  • Improved reliability of Windows VNC server on multi-processor systems.
  • Improved reliability of Windows VNC server with multiple simultaneous viewer connections.
  • Support for multiple listening viewers on the same Windows machine, see the -listen option in the viewer documentation.
  • Improved Unix VNC server performance for graphics intensive applications. See the -maxrects option in the Xvnc manual page.
  • Unix VNC server has a control mechanism to allow optimization of interactivity versus drawing performance. See the -deferupdate option in the vncconnect manual page.
