Conexware today released the second beta release of version 11.0 of its Powerarchiver archiving program. This program can handle the most common archiving types such as zip, 7z, cab, lha tar, gzip, bzip2, rar, arj, arc and ace. In addition, it can also read CD or DVD images, such as iso, bin, img and nrg. The first thing you notice about Powerarchiver 2009 is that there are now two different versions available: a standard and a professional edition. The first contains everything we are used to from the old Powerarchiver, the other can also burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, create iso files and also mount them as a virtual drive and finally also be used as an ftp client. In this second beta, in addition to the necessary bug fixes, we also find various improvements regarding 7-zip and the startup time of the program has been reduced. This beta brings the following changes:

• First time in 7-Zip – Optimized compression that automatically selects best method between lzma and ppmd, for up to 40% smaller archive size.
• Major 7-Zip improvements: delete, rename and update contents of 7zip files.
• 7-Zip encryption – added support for 7-Zip encrypted file names (read/write).
• Faster startup time as much as 40% in certain situations.
