The Windows version of Mozilla Firefox is developed with the greatest possible compatibility in mind. Partly due to these concessions to older hardware, the browser is not as fast as it could be. At least this is the Moonchild Productions philosophy behind Pale Moon. Pale Moon is one-to-one with Mozilla Firefox in functionality, but without support for older processors. Some things have also been omitted, including Accessibility features and Parental controls. The result is a browser that is up to 25 percent better performs. Version 3.6.6 of Pale Moon became available on Monday. This release has all the improvements that Firefox version 3.6.6 brought, including the crash protection of the Flash, Quicktime, or Silverlight plug-ins. Also new in this release is that Pale Moon now uses its own profile folder and no longer shares it with Firefox. This makes it possible to use the two side by side.

Changes in version 3.6.6

Updated the code base to Firefox 3.6.6, this introduces OOPP (“Out Of Process Plugin”) functionality. A few selected plugins have been set to use this functionality (most notably Apple Quicktime and Adobe Flash), but most plugins will remain running as before. If these enabled/notorious plugins become unresponsive, they will be terminated independently after 20 seconds instead of completely locking up your browser.

Major changes this release:

• Pale Moon will no longer share its profile with Firefox. Too many people got confused by this fact.
  If you are upgrading from an earlier Pale Moon version, your profiles will not be picked up automatically!
  To migrate your profile (bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, etc.) to 3.6.6, USE THIS TOOL
• Pale Moon can now run side-by-side with Firefox.
