Opera announced earlier this year that it would stop developing the Presto render engine and switch to the Webkit engine, which powers the Safari and Chrome browsers, among others. An early development version has now been released, which is fine for surfing. However, several functions that Opera users are used to are still missing, such as Opera Link, mouse gestures, Dragonfly, password manager and bookmark syncing. A Webkit version has also been introduced on Android, but after much protest, the old version is soon as Opera Classic placed back in the Play Store. In any case, this version clearly shows where Opera is heading. The memory usage is low and the speed is good, but there is still some work to be done.
