Opera Mini is a web browser for mobile phones written in Java and allows users to browse the Internet and view RSS feeds through the program, among other things. Unlike Opera Mobile, where the program downloads the entire page and then renders the page in a format suitable for the phone, the requested pages are first modified by Opera’s servers so that they can be displayed by Mini. Not long ago, the developers of Opera released a first beta version of Opera Mini 4 made available. The beta can be downloaded by using the Java capable mobile phone nasty this page to surf. Opera Mini’s weblog states described which new features are in the first 4 series of the web browser. An overview of general features can be found in this document:

The new rendering architecure allows for page previews, instant zoom, proper handheld stylesheet support with pixel-perfect CSS and much more. This is based on the same core engine that will be used by Opera 9.5, and similar to the one used by the Wii browser. We’ll have more details for web developers shortly.
