Software Update: Opera 10.00 build 1699 beta 3

Opera released the third official beta release of version 10.00 of the web browser of the same name on Thursday. The Norwegian browser is free to use and includes features such as tabbed browsing, a popup blocker and an email program with spam filter. In version 10.00, Opera Unite will also be added, which offers the possibility to exchange files and chat with other Opera users. Compared to the second beta, the user interface has, among other things, been translated into a large number of languages ​​and improvements have been made to the tabs. Below is an overview of the most important changes since beta 2:

  • Translated into 39 languages ​​including English


  • Visual tabs now available on the left or right side of the browser window
  • Further tab improvements with better attention state design
  • Spellchecker menu item moved to Preferences > Advanced > Browsing dialog box
  • Additional debug skin tooltip information: skin information of the parent element, plus what skin type is active (top, left, right, bottom or default)
  • Mac: skin top dragbar knob now repeated on left/right sides


  • Problem when trying to open a .pdf file

  • Windows: Pages using webfonts which caused a problem in Windows 98
  • Windows: HTML clipboard now works with both MS Office and
  • Mac: Panel buttons for the Mac skin
  • Linux: Opera tray icon transparency issue
  • Linux: Problem after dragging a tab to a second window, closing it, then activating the first window
