Software update: O&O Defrag 6.5 build 851

O&O Software has released version 6.5 build 851 of Defrag Pro. The program is intended for defragmenting hard drives in an NT 4, Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine. In the long list of changes we find, among other things, a completely renewed GUI for the server version and lower CPU usage during the analysis cycle. The full changelog looks like this:

The following features have been added or changed in V6.5 Build 851:

  • Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the Server Edition has been completely renewed
    • Integration of the task pane concept, as known from the Professional Edition
    • Shortcuts to all frequently used tasks integrated into the task pane
    • New Windows 2003 Look & Feel
  • Notification for updates are now displayed in the SiteControl, instead of using an extra dialog
  • Remote installation of the O&O ComponentInstaller agent is now executed concurrently to increase speed for software distribution
  • New Tip-of-the-day dialog
  • ClusterInspector-Dialog resizable
  • French language version
  • Installation now available as a single executable file

The following improvements have been made in V6.5 Build 851:

  • Reduced CPU usage during analysis
  • Automatically generated description of a job now contains all settings from
  • Unmodified jobs are not transmitted again
  • Creation of many files during defragmentation does not lead to a loop any more
  • Command deactivated, if no connection to the agent exists
  • Display “Last stop” of a site job corrected
  • Display during boot-time defragmentation (BTD): only files are counted, that are actually considered for defragmentation
  • Computation of the fragmentation level has been modified
  • Task pane now contains scrollbar, since it can be too large with a screen resolution lower than 1024×768
  • Missing size information (Bytes, …) in computers status reports added
  • SPACE method now recognized free space between exclusively locked and fragmented files as free
  • Cluster bitmap only updated, if changes have been made during two starts of defragmentation
  • O&O DefragWizard does not ask for activation of automatic defragmentation, if it is already activated
  • Display of locked fragmented files on spanned volumes corrected
  • Analysis of paging file on spanned volumes corrected
  • Single change of job setting from “sequential” to “parallel” now possible
  • Removal of rarely notification of “Low memory” on spanned volumes, although enough free space available
  • Locked fragmented files are now listed as locked and fragmented
  • Interpretation of some rare chkdsk messages added
  • Exclusion of a complete volume now possible, even if no trailing “” has been given
  • Display of for permanent jobs corrected
  • Entering of only valid IP addresses in dialog added
  • Error message displayed for non-existent/deactivated network connection
  • Creation and sending of new jobs in the SiteControl only possible, if computers are available
  • Removal of large number of computers from the SiteControl (more than 100) speeded up
  • Single-run jobs with activated later start date are now only executed once
  • Exclusion of a single file possible (activated)
  • Active jobs are now saved and displayed correctly
  • Timeout for establishing connection changed to 60 seconds
  • Display of a start time for automatic jobs removed
  • If the letter of a volume is changed, it will be scanned only once
  • Microsoft Management Console (MMC) does terminate gracefully after the ComponentInstaller has been used (previously, the MMC stayed in the task list)
  • BTD jobs have not been executed correctly under certain circumstances
  • SiteControl: No memory leaks any more, if establishing connections is aborted
  • Correction of analysis of position of certain sparse files, which could lead to a loop during defragmentation
  • Connection problems with the SiteControl fixed, if too many non-existing computers where listed in the ActiveDirectory
  • Online help: name of the command line file corrected (“OODCMD” instead of “OODEFRAG”)
  • Abortion of the BTD does not remove the paging file, if it had been defragmented before
  • Online help: picture “Status report of Site Jobs” added [break] click for a larger version
