Download NewsLeecher 3.5 beta 2

The second beta release of NewsLeecher 3.5 has just been released. NewsLeecher is a binary newsreader for usenet, which downloads files from binary newsgroups. There is also an integrated search function (super search) so that you do not have to download all headers for a group from which you want to download files. Also present is NZB support. NZB files are small files that describe where certain files are located on usenet, so that you do not have to download all headers. In addition to the necessary bug fixes, this release also contains a lot of improvements with regard to the super search. The full changelog looks like this:

Changes in 3.5 beta 2:

• There have been some major improvements to SuperSearch lately. Here are some of the highlights:
  • True wildcard word and string matching. If you search for ‘mercedes slk’, all subjects matching *mercedes* and *slk* will be returned, no matter the order of the keywords.
  • Possibility to exclude posts, containing certain keywords.
  • Search within specific groups or search for posts from specific posters.
  • 65-70 days index retention in most usenet groups.
  • Max SuperSearch result count bumped to 15,000
• Browsed and/or updated-groups will now auto-unload from memory after some time. This saves a lot of memory with larger groups.
• The SuperSearch UI has been slightly changed.
• Popup menu animations turned off. A future release with use system settings to detect the way popup menus should show
• Added possibility to easily rename virtual groups
• Lots of small improvements here and there.
• When creating virtual group categories with 2 or more spaces, the second and subsequent spaces are displayed as underscores
• Bug introduced in v3.5 beta 1 where the ‘stop’ function didn’t cancel group updating has been fixed
• Bug introduced in v3.5 beta where bots in collapsed ‘grouping’ mode always showed the status ‘Idle’ has been fixed
• Mainmenu hotkeys were missing in v3.5 beta 1. They’re hooked up again
• Edit/Copy/Paste/… popup menus were missing in 3.5 beta 1
• As usual, many smaller bug fixes.
