Download NewsBin Pro 4.3

The developers of NewsBin Pro have a new version through the forum released† This time the update is numbered 4.3 and can be from here be pulled down. NewsBin Pro is able to download and build so-called split binaries from a news server. A notable change in 4.3 is the reduced memory usage of NewsBin Pro. In addition, this version cannot be used on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Me. After releasing fifty internal releases, the list of changes and new capabilities like this:

New Features and Enhancements

• Uses less than 1/2 the RAM as 4.22
• Added “Slave Server” feature which reduces the need for headers from all servers
• NZB and BNS message ID file support
• Allows use of PAR/PAR2 files to choose sets of files to download
• Bandwidth limiter button on main toolbar
• Per connection pause function
• Shows download rate in bits per second and bytes per second
• New time filter option to show only posts from 12 hours to 20 days old
• Built in Master Splitter support through the “Combine Files” function
• NewsBin is now skin-able
• Fonts are now user definable
• More details in relnotes.txt file stored after NewsBin is installed

Bug Fixes since 4.22:

• Post Limiter function is fixed. If multiple servers are selected, will show the number of posts times the number of servers in the status bar when loading.
• Fixed crash when doing a manual add group with trailing spaces
• Fixed problem where adding/deleting groups in sequence will delete entries from the groups list.
• Fixed problem where filters were being applied using “Find” from the Toolbar (which searches spool files). The toolbar find feature now overrides all filters.

Notes/Know Issues:

• WILL NOT RUN ON WINDOWS 95/98/ME MACHINES!
• Not compatible with stored headers from 4.22. All headers need to be downloaded again when upgrading to 4.3.
• Not compatible with saved download lists from 4.22. You should allow any saved downloads to complete before upgrading
• Filename filtering is broken if you run multiple servers
• Order of download list is not preserved on save/reload, for example, the autosave feature.
• Custom filter profile names must start with a letter. It won’t be saved if it starts with a digit.
• Read Post Body always uses the first server in properties list, even if it is disabled RPB won’t work for posts loaded from .bns or .nzb files because it isn’t hooked up to download by message id.
• Save to Folder is not remembered on restart/autoload.
• Errors from the news server which NewsBin deems “temporary” are retried forever.
• Had a couple of reports of NewsBin crashing on exit while downloading files. Is not consistently reproducable and cannot be reproduced by NewsBin staff.
