As we are used to from Mozilla, the first beta release of the next version has already appeared shortly after the release of a stable version of the Firefox web browser. Version 23, which will be available on August 6 if all goes well, includes support for the new OS X scrollbar style, better protection against so-called man-in-the-middle attacks and Windows of DVAX2 used to accelerate h.264 video. Below is the provisionally incomplete overview of the improvements that we can expect in version 23.

New:

• Support for new scrollbar style in Mac OS X 10.7 and newer
• Mixed content blocking enabled to protects users from man-in-the-middle attacks and eavesdroppers on HTTPS pages (learn more)

Changed:

• Improved about:memory’s functional UI
• Enabled DXVA2 on Windows Vista+ to accelerate H.264 video decoding
• Updated Firefox Logo
• “Load images automatically”, “Enable JavaScript”, and Always show the tab bar” checkboxes removed from preferences
• Simplified interface for notifications of plugin installation
• Users can now switch to a new search provider across the entire browser
• CSP policies using the standard syntax and semantics will now be enforced

Developer:

• Implemented a global browser console
• Social share functionality
• HTML5 form control implemented
• Write more accessible pages on touch interfaces with new ARIA role for key buttons
• Added unprefixed requestAnimationFrame
• New feature in toolbox: Network Monitor
• Dropped blink effect from text-decoration: blink; and completely removed element

Known Issues

• If you try to start Firefox using a locked profile, it will crash (see 573369)
