Download Microsoft SE 4.2.216.0 prerelease

Microsoft has released a ‘preview’ of version 4.2 of Security Essentials. Microsoft has been offering this free antivirus solution since September 2009 and since version 2.0 there is also a firewall in the program. This trial version, which is currently only available in English, can only be used on Windows XP, Vista and 7. Windows 8 comes standard with Windows Defender, which equivalent protection as Security Essentials offers. Microsoft has not disclosed any changes it has made to version 4.2.
