Today is a special day for the MAME developers. Indeed, it is precise 10 years ago that Nicola Salmoria released version 0.1 of MAME. MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator and this program is able to emulate a large amount of old arcade games and consoles. In addition to the ‘regular’ version, as usual, there is also a version optimized for the Pentium Pro processor, because this processor is good enough to run the Arcade games and is therefore popular among MAME users. Version 0.112 has support for 6465 ROM sets, 93 more than the previous version, of a whopping 3482 unique games. This time the changelog is longer than usual and shows the following changes:

  • Fixed popping in Berzerk speech.
  • Added osd_rmfile to the osdcore, replacing calls to remove().
  • Cleaned up a number of drivers that were using malloc from within DRIVER_INIT to use malloc_or_die instead.
