Software update: GetRight 4.5 beta 7

Spread the love

deviltje writes that a new version of Download-helper GetRight is already available. The list of innovations is, as is often the case here, huge:

  • Fix a few “don’t use auto-search” cases left over from just ftpSearching (GetRight required a number–implying a version–in the file name since didn’t do exact file size; new FileMirrors does not require a number in the name.)
  • Added a few little stat numbers in the transfer log, so tells how many mirrors it got from each search method.
  • Fix so handles spaces in filenames for “Content-Disposition” right.
  • Added so remembers the last config page you were on.
  • It seems some versions of Windows that do the “system restore” things can make backup copies of .INI files. Normally this would be good, but GetRight used GETRIGHT.INI to save the list of downloads. This gets updated when files are added, finish, etc. Someone downloading lots of files had hundreds of backups that were getting made (and slowing everything down). Changed so it now uses GETRIGHT.LST as the name of the file with the list of downloads.
  • A couple people were getting the list corrupted in some rare cases…do better locking.
  • Still not multiline as some have requested, but did increase the comment length a bit.
  • Some servers didn’t work as well with GetRight’s retrieve request if the path had a space…change how it works slightly if the path has a space (CWD then RETR isntead of plain RETR).
  • Added so SaveAs remembers if had “All” or one of the filters selected.
  • Added Priority and Folder items on the Browser’s Advanced Download options window.
  • Fix to delay writing of the list if adding a bunch at once (Import, Browser, etc.)
  • Added to “URL Not Found” window so you can do mirror searching from there and hopefully find a better URL.
  • Added a few more little options on the Browser’s Advanced Download (start the sequence at a number, “Link Text” naming.)
  • Switched to use non-blocking for name lookup before connections. Might help avoid some crashes if was stopped before the connection/lookup happened.
  • Added “Links” menu to go to GetRight web sites…we’ll see how people like it…
  • Changed a number of things to try and fix crashes a few people get (and those that get the crash get it rather frequently.) Not sure it fixes it all, but most of the people who tried a little test one said it fixed it for them.
  • WindowsXP: Different beta builds of XP seem to work better than others. GetRight Beta 7 does fix the crash in beta 6 with some builds of XP, but will have the “overlapping minimize-to-tray” problem with some XP builds; some later XP builds seem to do it better/different and not have the overlap problem. Decided to just wait and see what the XP Release Candidates do…
