There are now a number of different Instant Messaging networks. As a result, it is possible that a number of friends or acquaintances use an IM network that you do not use. Therefore, IM programs have been developed that support multiple IM networks.

For the Mac OS X operating system, the Fire program is available that supports the following IM networks: AOL, Apple Rendezvous, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Jabber, limited IRC, and Yahoo. The development team has recently released version 1.5.2 with the following release notes:

This update to Fire improves compatibility with Tiger (10.4) systems, and fixes some problems with the following areas:

• MSN not working on 10.4, many other MSN fixes
• irc tab completion and encoding
• Jabber GPG encryption and signing
• Other miscellaneous fixes
• Also added a Danish localization.

NOTE!! We are aware of an issue where connecting to Jabber on 10.4 (tiger) systems results in a crash. We are currently working on a fix. In the meantime, 10.4 users will need to refrain from connecting to Jabber.
