Software Update: FileZilla 3.16.1

Spread the love

The final release of version 3.16.1 of the open source FTP client FileZilla has been released. FileZilla is small, simple and yet complete. The program is popular due to its low system resource load. However, a common complaint is that passwords are stored unencrypted on the computer. FileZilla is available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and can be downloaded from this page be downloaded in different versions.

SourceForge, which hosts the downloads, has been in the news lately because it offers some downloads through its own download manager that contains adware. If the download is less than 1MB in size and has an icon with the letters ‘SF’, you’ve got the wrong one. If the download is about 6MB and there is a FileZilla icon, then you are probably fine and you want to make sure that at least the integrity check is still possible using the SHA-512 hash. This release uses a newer version of the NSIS installer to prevent a vulnerability.

Fixed vulnerabilities:

  • Updated installer to NSIS 3.0b3 to prevent DLL hijacking
