Software Update: Dropbox 3.2.7

Version 3.2.7 of Dropbox has been released. Dropbox is an online storage service that makes it possible to synchronize files between different computers. In addition, files and photo albums can be shared with people who don’t have Dropbox accounts. Clients are available for Windows, Linux, OS X, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Kindle Fire. A free account gives you access to 2GB of storage, with the option to expand it by introducing new users. The storage capacity is 1TB for a payment of ten euros per month. In addition, a business subscription can be taken out. The release notes for this release are as follows:

New in 3.2.7

  • Re-enable support for older Windows machines without SSE2
  • Fix for a rare issue that caused high CPU usage on Windows
  • Fix for a weird Linux crash
  • Other minor fixes

New in the 3.2 series:

  • Open from web: locally open a file on your computer from (1)
  • OS X – Support for auto-discovered and auto-configured network proxies (2)
  • Windows – New implementation of our File Explorer shell extension (3)
  • Connection sharing for lower latency

  • On the Dropbox website you will see an Open button instead of a Download button for your files and folders if you have this desktop client installed and have the file locally synced. Depending on the file extension, clicking the Open button will open the application on your computer associated with that file extension or open your OS’s file browser to the containing folder. This feature is compatible with the all recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. If you’re experiencing issues please let us know what OS, browser, antivirus, and firewall software you are running.
  • If you currently configure Dropbox to use a proxy on OS X, please test out our new auto-discovery and auto-configuration support by switching to “Auto-detect” in the Network tab of Dropbox’s preferences.
  • Dropbox integration in File Explorer should work just as it did in 3.0 and earlier, so please let us know if anything seems wrong.
