Software Update: Big Sister 0.98c8

Spread the love

Big Sister is not a new Endemol program but a high quality network and system monitor with SNMP support. This allows you to easily monitor the network and detect critical points in a timely manner. In addition, a history can be kept of the changes in the network. Version 0.98c8 was recently released as a stable and has the following release notes:

This is a bug fix release. The only new feature included is the NUT UPS monitor also released for 0.98c7 as an installable module.

  • Made System V sar monitor AIX compatible.
  • Fixed FQDN handling. Switch to FQDN now via “DEFAULT fqdn=yes ALL” in uxmon-net.
  • Added the NUT UPS monitor.
  • The ‘realhttp’ test got two extra arguments: “extraheaders” and “extraheadersvalue” allowing to send custom headers.
  • Made logging via syslog more robust. It should now behave a little bit more reasonable on systems where the Perl syslog module fails to use Unix domain sockets.
  • Fixed high granularity time measurement. It now works on every platform where Perl >=5.8 is installed and does not crash on platforms that do not support the gettimeofday() system call.
  • Added swap monitor implementation for Solaris so that we get a swap memory usage on this platform, too.
  • Fixed the “users” sensor.
  • The RPM now creates the Big Sister user “bigsis” in the system users’ uid space.
  • Fixed %Rsync which was broken since version 0.98beta4.
  • The default config files are those provided by Herb Rubin.
  • uxmon command now shows a Usage string when invoked with wrong arguments.
