Download AbiWord 2.0.8
In the land of open source word processors, there are some well-known names, and behind one of those names is the Abiword project. Abiword is a word processor whose greatest strength is its compatibility. Not only can the software read the weirdest types of text files, the program also runs on virtually any operating system you can think of.
Abiword has meanwhile arrived at version 2.0.8, which, as can be concluded from the even middle version number, is a stable release. The update from 2.0.7 to 2.0.8 consists only of bug fixes, which is announced with some typical programmer humor:
While we were fairly confident that AbiWord v2.0.7 was rock solid, it appeared the rock had some previously unseen cracks hidden beneath the surface. Our precious rock is all firmly glued together again now and won’t fall apart. We promise.
This release is a bug fix release only. The changes from 2.0.7 to 2.0.8 include, amongst others:
- A great number of fixes to the Windows frontend
- Fixed quite a few (table related) crashers
- Buffer overflow fixed in the Microsoft Word importer
- Several build fixes, and gcc 3.4 compatibility fixes
