The developers of 7-Zip have released a new development version of their eponymous archiver. 7-Zip can handle a variety of compression formats, including zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb, and of course the proprietary 7z. Furthermore, the software is capable of opening iso files and Nsis installation packages. The program is available for Windows, in both 32bit and 64bit versions. Version 9.08 alpha ships with the following changelog:

What’s new after 7-zip 9.07:

• 7-Zip now can unpack Apple Partition Map (APM) disk images.
• Speed ​​optimizations in AES code for Intel’s 32nm CPUs.
• Speed ​​optimizations in CRC caclulation code for Intel’s Atom CPUs.
• Some bugs were fixed.
