The new releases of 7-Zip follow each other in rapid succession, because version 4.37 beta of this archiving program has just been released on SourceForge. 7-Zip can handle the compression formats zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm and deb, but of course specializes in the self-developed 7z format. According to their own words, this format can achieve a 30 to 50 percent better compression ratio than with zip. Since version 4.31 there are separate versions for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The changelog of this release looks like this:
