‘Snapchat will soon start with ads adapted to use’

Snapchat would soon start showing ads that the company adjusts based on what users do in the app. The chat app hasn’t done that until now, it only adjusts ads based on gender and country.

For example, the move means that users who read a lot of material about basketball in the app can expect a targeted advertisement in that area, Business Insider writes. However, according to a report from eMarketer, it will only be about behavior in Snapchat itself and not based on pages that users visit on the internet, such as Facebook does. The information comes via the unlinked eMarketer report from a top executive of Snapchat’s sales department. The company is not responding to the information.

It would be the first time Snapchat has taken that step. The chat app has been offering ads since late 2014, but until now only allowed advertisers to customize ads based on basic information such as country, mobile network, and gender.

Earlier this summer, Snapchat released an api for advertisers. Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel has been saying for years that Snapchat wants to save its users from “scary” ads.
