Simcity can now be played offline

Maxis has incorporated the promised offline mode into SimCity. After several hours of downtime for the SimCity servers, it is now possible to boot Origin in offline mode and play SimCity. According to Maxis, the offline mode has taken more than half a year of development time.

Maxis announces the news through the official SimCity forum, among other things. SimCity has often been the subject of discussion in the past. Shortly after release, for example, there were many server problems that made the game, which until today could only run in multiplayer mode, unplayable.

Additionally, Maxis claimed that an offline mode for the game would be nearly impossible to implement in the game, although an insider at Maxis claimed the opposite. In addition, tests by Kotaku, among others, also seemed to indicate that Simcity could simply be played offline.

In addition to offline functionality, Maxis adds support for mods with update 10. Maxis and EA do impose the necessary conditions on that support. Mods and extensions must not affect multiplayer gameplay, violate copyright, or contain inappropriate content. In addition, EA has the right to promote, distribute and sell the work of modders without acknowledgment or compensation.
