Samsung to release Tizen 3.0 operating system in September
Samsung announced at its Developer Conference that it plans to release the 3.0 version of its Tizen operating system in September. A beta version of the system should be available in July.
Samsung announced during the presentation that the system brings a number of important improvements, PC World writes. For example, it was confirmed that Tizen 3.0 has 64bit support and the ability to display natively at UHD resolution. With this, a performance gain of 30 percent compared to the previous version, Tizen 2.4, should be achieved.
In addition, there will be support for Vulkan APIs, with a framework for different platforms such as desktop, mobile and console. Features such as multi-user usage and voice control are also included in the new version, along with improved security through an ‘anti-virus framework’ and a ‘privacy guard’.
The new operating system focuses mainly on internet-of-things applications, for example with support for bluetooth 4.2. Tizen was originally intended for smartphones, but has never really been able to get a foothold in that market. There are a number of Tizen phones made; recently reports came out about a new version of the Z1.
