Samsung is reportedly conducting tests with a smartphone running Android Go in a number of markets worldwide, including some countries in Europe. It would be the first device with Android Go from the Korean company.

It is a smartphone with type number SM-J260G, of which indications have already appeared that it would run Android Go. Samsung would test that device in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, countries where the company traditionally tries to profile itself with budget devices.

According to Sammobile, Samsung is also testing the device in Europe, under the name SM-J260F. Sammobile is usually well informed about Samsung’s plans. The Android Go phone would be tested in Germany, France and the United Kingdom, among others.

In addition, the Korean company would test the device in some South American countries and additional Asian markets such as Vietnam and Thailand. Possibly the company’s strategy is to see how different markets are reacting to the introduction of a smartphone with Android Go.

Android Go is a lightweight variant of Google’s mobile operating system, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The operating system runs on smartphones with 1GB of RAM or less and users lose less data on updates.
