Samsung denies rumors about a cheaper mid-range folding phone

Samsung denies that it is working on a midrange folding phone. Previously, those involved in the Samsung smartphone supply chain reported that such a device would be launched next year.

Opposite Korea JoongAng Daily says Samsung: “We have no plans to make a foldable smartphone in the midrange price range and the rumors are unfounded.” The South Korean tech giant is responding to claims from sources TrendForce; anonymous stakeholders in Samsung’s supply chain said the company was making a cheaper foldable smartphone. The device would cost between $400 and $500, while the brand’s cheapest foldable at release so far was the Galaxy Z Flip series, the entry-level model of which has cost around $1,000 for several generations.

The sources did not indicate which form factor would be involved. Samsung currently has two product lines of foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Fold series that folds open into a kind of tablet and the Galaxy Flip clamshells.
