The second version of Microsoft’s augmented reality headset HoloLens may have an ARM soc and support for 4G networks. Microsoft would like to present the second version of the glasses at the end of this year or next year.

The company first wanted to present the HoloLens 2 earlier, but Microsoft decided to postpone it due to the lack of competition, Windows Central reports. The HoloLens 2 should, according to the information from the site, run on Windows Core OS, which Microsoft develops under the name Oasis.

It is unclear who makes the ARM soc that would be in the HoloLens 2. The most obvious processor designer is Qualcomm. Microsoft is already working with Qualcomm in the ARM version of Windows 10 for Always Connected PCs and the Redmond company put a Qualcomm X16 modem in its Surface Pro LTE. The first HoloLens has an Intel Cherry Trail soc on x86 architecture.

Microsoft has not yet announced anything about a successor to the first HoloLens, which is codenamed Sydney according to Windows Central. Microsoft said earlier that the next version will have an AI coprocessor. Windows Central is known for its good resources within Microsoft and has in the past published accurate information about unannounced Microsoft products.
