Rumor: Apple is almost done with new iMacs with retina screen
New iMacs with retina screens are said to be in the final stages of testing, an Apple fan site reports. The design of the iMacs would be similar to that of the iMacs from 2012. The new iMacs may be presented together with OS X Yosemite.
Apple fan site 9to5Mac has heard of the new iMacs from anonymous sources who allegedly used the device. The new iMacs, which in addition to a better screen would also have faster CPUs and a better Wi-Fi chip, may come along with the introduction of OS X Yosemite later this fall.
It would be the first time that Apple has equipped desktop computers with a screen with a high pixel density, something the Cupertino company calls a Retina screen. MacBooks have been available with a Retina display since 2012.
Earlier it was rumored that Apple is working on an iMac with a 4k screen; the resolution used for the ‘Retina iMacs’ may become different. Tech blogger Jack March, however, claims that Apple may even have plans for a 27-inch iMac with a 5k display. The display is said to have a resolution of 5120 by 2880 pixels, which equates to a density of approximately 218ppi.
The smaller iMacs don’t get a retina screen, according to March. In addition, the blogger, who has published correct rumors in the past, claims that the new iMacs can be equipped with an Intel Core i7-4790K CPU that operates at 4GHz. The new iMac would also have a GPU from AMD on board; current iMacs still have Nvidia GPUs.
