Rockstar Games has acquired Cfx.re. That’s the team behind the roleplaying communities FiveM and RedM. Those mods offer custom multiplayer servers for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 respectively.

Cfx.re is now ‘officially part of Rockstar Games’, Rockstar writes in a blog post. The developer says it has been excited to see how the community has “expanded the capabilities of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.” The studio specifically talks about setting up special roleplaying servers. Cfx.re is the team behind two popular multiplayer mods: FiveM and RedM.

Rockstar says it will help Cfx.re support their communities and improve their services. The two companies will share more concrete details about their plans “in the coming weeks and months.” It is unknown what exactly Rockstar and Cfx.re are planning. The two companies also do not say what amount is involved in the acquisition.

FiveM and RedM allow players to set up custom multiplayer servers with mod support for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. This allows players to set up roleplaying servers, among other things. On such servers, players can lead their own lives, find a job, use their own weapons, maps and vehicles and more.
