Raspberry foundation reports having sold 3.8 million Raspberry Pis
The foundation behind the small Raspberry Pi computer now reports that it has sold a total of 3.8 million units. The sales figure comes eleven months after the announcement that 2 million Raspberry Pis have been sold.
This means that growth is far from over for the DIY computer. The foundation behind the computer released the sales number in a tweet in which the organization itself spoke of ‘an awful lot of computers’. The first Pi was delivered in February 2012, and the makers hoped to sell about 10,000 units by then.
Less than a year later, however, a million units had already been sold and in November 2013 the counter stood at two million. In the past year, the organization has released the Raspberry Pi B+, an improved version of the existing B model, and a Compute Model, a small model that comes as a kit. The popularity of the Raspberry Pi has led to the rise of numerous small DIY systems, such as Intel’s Edison.
