A ransomware group called Rhysida has published various internal files of Insomniac Games, including release dates and gameplay footage of unreleased X-Men games. The gang said it stole such files a week ago.

The gang is said to have published just under 1.7 terabytes of internal data, or 1.3 million files, from Insomniac Games, writes Cyber Daily. According to the criminals, this amounts to only two percent of the total stolen data and some of it has now been auctioned. The gang already threatened this last week; Insomniac Games would have had a week to respond to the hackers’ demands.

The leaked data reveals many details about the Marvel’s Wolverine game announced in 2021. That game should be released in the fall of 2026, although that has never been officially communicated. An internal roadmap and contracts also reveal that Insomniac Games has entered into an agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment to release several other X-Men games, including a Venom game and a Marvel’s X-Men game, respectively, for the fall of 2025 and 2030. A Spider-Man 3 and a new Ratchet & Clank are also planned.

Parent company Sony confirmed last week that it was investigating a possible cyber attack on Insomniac Games. It is not clear to what extent the companies responded to demands from the ransomware gang and how exactly the attack took place. It has been clear for some time that the US Department of Justice and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency consider Rhysida a real threat; those two organizations published a document together in November about the gang.
