Players of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are complaining a lot about the recent introduction of bots in multiplayer rounds. The bots would be rather boring to play against and sometimes it is teeming with them.

There are numerous fairly recent topics on Reddit in which players complain about the bots. For example, there is a player who states that there are more than seventy bots present in lobbies that can accommodate up to a hundred players. The player complains that he hardly encounters real players, partly because the bots are not present on the playing field from the first minute. He describes that they only spawn after about five minutes near players and that they are not a challenge either, as they walk in straight lines or come to a complete standstill. According to players, the bots can be recognized by their generic names and the addition of the underscore sign.

Another player acknowledges on the Resetera forum that the bots are ‘terrible’, also pointing out that you can’t escape them. Bots are only for the casual rounds, where rankings are not an issue. There are no bots in ranked matches. However, the player states that developer PUBG Corp. has decided to introduce the bots before the ranked option is available. He also doesn’t understand why bots are actually necessary. According to him, the game is still popular enough to fill lobbies with a hundred players of flesh and blood.

The introduction of bots was a fact with the recent update 7.1 for the consoles. In it, the developer explains that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds can be brutal and quite a few players appreciate that, but PUBG Corp. states that there are also many players who quickly die without being able to harm anyone. “To help these players master the unique PUBG mechanics and features, we are introducing bots,” the developer wrote. The ratio of bots to human players is according to PUBG Corp. dynamic. It would automatically adapt to players’ skills and the size of the group of players in each region.
