The American pay channel Showtime has commissioned the production of a series based on the Halo games. The first season will consist of ten episodes and will go into production in early 2019.

The series has the working title Halo and is made in consultation with Microsoft and developer 343 Industries. It will be a science fiction series set in the same universe as the Halo games, where humanity fights against aliens known as the Covenant.

Kyle Killen is the producer and writer of the series. He previously produced the TV series Awake and Mind Games. Rupert Wyatt, director of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will direct multiple episodes. The episodes will last an hour.

It is not yet known when the series will be shown. Production will start early next year, but the parties do not specify how long it will take before the episodes are ready. Microsoft does say in the announcement that the series will be distributed worldwide by CBS Studios International. Showtime’s offer cannot be viewed in the Benelux, but other channels or streaming services may purchase the rights to show the series.

In 2012, there was already a miniseries around Halo, titled Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. The series consisted of five 100-minute episodes.
