Owner Tom’s Hardware buys Anandtech
The owner of Tom’s Hardware has bought AnandTech. For the time being, nothing seems to have changed in the sites, both of which have been around since the 1990s and both publish in English about computer hardware.
Purch Media bought Tom’s Hardware in 2013 and has now announced its acquisition of AnandTech. The company won’t say how much it paid for the hardware site, which has been around since 1997. This means that Tom’s Hardware and AnandTech are part of the same company for the first time. The same company also includes LiveScience and Space.com.
The acquisition comes months after Anand Lal Shimpi, the founder, left the site to work for Apple. Shimpi says in the press release about the takeover that he supports the takeover and “wouldn’t have wanted it any other way”. It is unknown what Purch plans to do with AnandTech.
