Nvidia has released a fix for an issue that caused users to experience increased CPU usage. This is a bug as part of GeForce driver 531.18. The fix is a hotfix that moves the driver version to 531.26.

According to Nvidia Driver version 531.26 is based on 531.18 and fixes two issues, including “Increased CPU consumption by the Nvidia container after closing games.” In addition, on laptops with GeForce GTX 10/MX250/350 GPUs, there could be a random bug check. That problem should also be fixed with the hotfix.

The hotfix driver is actually a beta driver and can be considered as version 531.18 with some minor changes. Nvidia says it’s safer to wait for the next official release, but the company wanted to address the bugs involved.

The bug that causes the higher CPU consumption is in Nvidia Game Ready driver version 531.18, which was released last week and introduced RTX Video Super Resolution, among other things. After the update, the driver can consume more than ten percent of the CPU capacity after logging in or after closing games, noted Tom Warren of The Verge, among others.
