Nintendo will not announce a Switch at E3 in June

Nintendo will not announce a new version of the Switch during E3 in June. That is what a CEO of the company said after the presentation of the quarterly figures. There have been rumors for a while about a cheaper Switch that would be released this summer.

Fans should not expect new hardware at E3, Nintendo chief executive Shuntaro Furukawa said in an interview with journalists according to Bloomberg. “We’re always working on new hardware and we’ll announce it when we’re able to start selling it. But we have no plans to announce it at this year’s E3 in June.”

With that, Nintendo seems to be denying an earlier rumor that a cheaper Switch will be coming in June, although the statement leaves room to announce new hardware before or after E3. That is not obvious, because the game fair is traditionally a place to make big announcements.

There have been rumors about the device for some time. Nintendo would see it as a successor to the 3DS handheld. To keep the price down, Nintendo would remove functions from the device, such as the controller’s vibration function. Specifications of the device, such as the size and resolution of the screen or the soc used, were not mentioned in the rumours.
