‘Nintendo Switch successor will have an LCD screen and will be released in the second half of 2024’
Nintendo wants to release the successor to the Switch console in the second half of 2024. Video Games Chronicle writes this based on conversations with insiders. According to the site, the console may have an LCD screen to keep costs lower.
Nintendo wants to release the console in the second half of 2024 to ensure there is enough stock on release day, writes VGC. With this, the Japanese company would like to prevent shortages such as with the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nintendo’s “key partners” have already received development kits of the next-gen console, the site claims.
Just like the current Switch, it would be a hybrid console and could therefore also be used as a handheld device. According to two sources from VGC, the console will have an LCD screen, instead of an OLED screen as is the case with the 2021 model of the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo would like to use this to reduce costs, the site writes.
The console would also have a higher internal storage capacity than the 32GB of the first Switch model, although it is not stated exactly how much integrated storage space the new system will have. Furthermore, just like the current console, the Switch successor reportedly offers support for physical games through cartridges. Further details, such as whether the console is capable of playing games from the current Nintendo Switch, are still unclear, according to VGC.
