Nintendo lets browser-based GBA emulator take offline

Nintendo has had a Gameboy Advance emulator taken offline. The Javascript-based emulator worked from the browser and dozens of games were included in the software by default. The emulator was on Github.

Nintendo wanted the emulator offline because of the games it contained, according to a letter published by Github itself. In doing so, the emulator infringed Nintendo’s copyright. The letter states, among other things, that it concerns several games from the Advance Wars, Kirby, Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pokémon franchises. Many of these games are also available through Nintendo’s own Virtual Console for Wii and Wii U.

The emulator was available at jsemu.github.io/gba and has since been taken offline. The user behind it has deleted their GitHub account. Last year, Nintendo made a similar move to remove a Nintendo Gameboy emulator for iOS from the internet.
