NetGear introduces two media players

Netgear is going to release two media players called NeoTV. With the players, content can be played on the TV via a hard disk, via a home network or streaming via the internet. The NeoTV media players will be available in the fall.

Both devices ability Play 1080p video, and there’s support for Dolby Digital and dts sound. Users can connect external hard drives and memory cards via two built-in USB ports or the SD card slot. External devices can also be connected via dlna or universal plug & play. The media players can be connected to the TV through HDMI or component. An Ethernet connection is also available. An optional accessory is available that allows the media players to connect to Wi-Fi networks.

The more expensive model, the NeoTV 550, has an eSATA connection, in contrast to the NeoTV 350 variant. In addition, a Blu-ray player can be connected to the 550 model and it is possible to navigate through content based on album art.

The media players support the most common video codecs, such as h.264, xvid and wmv. For audio files, there is support for mp3, wma, aac, flac, dts and Dolby Digital.

The NeoTV 350 will cost 130 euros, while the 550 variant will cost 200 euros. An HDMI cable is not included. Both devices will be available in Europe in the fall, although a specific release date is not mentioned.
