Minecraft is also being released for Samsung’s Gear VR. Microsoft announced this at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. This makes it clear that John Carmack was indeed telling the truth at the beginning of October 2015.

In a few tweets referred Carmack on October 8, 2015, among others to Gear VR. Gear VR will be the second virtual reality platform to run Minecraft. It was previously announced that the Windows 10 version of Minecraft will receive support for the Oculus Rift this spring.

Furthermore, no information has been released about the Gear VR version of the game, such as price and release date. The quality of the game is rumored to be comparable to the Oculus Rift version of the game, but nothing official has come out about that yet.

The Gear VR is a headset into which a smartphone must be inserted. That makes it a lot cheaper than an Oculus Rift. In addition, Samsung has been in a partnership with Oculus since the end of 2014. The first consumer version of the Rift costs 699 euros against 99 euros for a Gear VR. Oculus starts shipping on March 28.
