The digital Xbox 360 Store will go permanently offline on July 29, 2024; users will no longer be able to buy new games in that store. Some of the 360 games will still be available for newer generations of Xbox, with the help of backwards compatibility.

Although purchasing new digital games will no longer be possible in the Xbox 360 Store and on marketplace.xbox.com, it will remain possible to download already purchased games and DLC from the Xbox infrastructure, says Microsoft. In addition, 360 games can also be purchased digitally and played on the Xbox One and Series, provided there is backward compatibility. The Wikipedia article about this states that 633 of the 2154 Xbox 360 games benefit from this, so Xbox 360 titles that are only available digitally in this Xbox 360 Marketplace may soon be lost.

This news also came out earlier this year, but the deadline was set to May 2023. Microsoft came back and said that the message was incorrect, but now only the end date appears to be different.

In addition to the Marketplace, the Microsoft Movies & TV app on the console will also no longer work on that date. In contrast to the digital game store, existing purchases will no longer be accessible. The Xbox 360 is almost 18 years old.
