Microsoft is warning Microsoft 365 users that their support on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will end early next year. Windows Server 2008 users will also no longer be able to use the software.

Microsoft writes on a support page that it will end support for Microsoft 365 on older operating systems from January 10, 2023. It specifically concerns Microsoft 365 applications that still work on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The date of January 10 is not entirely coincidental: that is the date that official support for Windows 8.1 also ends. From that date, administrators will no longer receive security updates for Microsoft 365 and on Windows 8.1 it will no longer be possible to set up new installations of the software.

Officially, Microsoft 365 was long discontinued on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but system administrators could use the software on it if they paid for the Extended Security Updates. Those also end on January 10 next year for the older operating systems.
