Entertainment apps such as Netflix, YouTube, HBO and the web browser will soon be accessible to everyone with an Xbox Live account, Microsoft has announced. Until now, users had to have a Gold subscription to use such apps.

The changes will be implemented in June, Microsoft has announced. Players who want to cancel their subscription as a result of the changes, for example because they only had a Gold subscription to use Netflix and YouTube, can do so; they will then be refunded the overpaid amount.

Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive and Xbox Music will also be free to use. In addition, the Games with Gold program, where Xbox Live members get free games, is coming to the Xbox One; the program was already there for the Xbox 360. On Tuesday there was already a rumor that the paywall for the entertainment applications would disappear.
