Microsoft links Cortana exclusively to Edge browser and Bing
Those who use Microsoft’s Cortana for web searches will now only see results in the Windows 10 Edge browser, obtained via the Bing search engine. Microsoft says it cannot guarantee the required ‘search experience’ with other combinations.
Microsoft claims that some programs “bypass the design of Windows 10” by directing users of Cortana to search engines that are not designed to work with the personal assistant. According to Microsoft, this produces less predictable and reliable results.
“The only way we can confidently deliver this personalized, end-to-end search experience is through the integration of Cortana, Edge, and Bing,” Microsoft said. That is why Microsoft is taking the step to link Cortana with its own browser and search engine. The manufacturer emphasizes that users can still change the default browser to a program other than Edge and that they can change the search engine of Edge and Internet Explorer.
