Automaker MG has announced a new version of the 5 Electric with an updated design and longer range. The MG5 Electric will have a range of more than 400 km based on the WLTP standard, about sixty kilometers more than the current version.

The renewed MG5 Electric is also coming to more European markets, MG writes. The car brand currently sells the MG5 EV in the United Kingdom. It has a range of 344 kilometers and a 52.5 kWh battery pack. It is not clear how big the battery pack is of the renewed MG5 Electric. MG reports that the new 5 Electric will get a stronger electric motor that delivers 184hp and 280Nm. This allows the MG to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.

The MG5 Electric will get an 11kW three-phase charger. MG does not report how long it takes before the battery is fully charged. The manufacturer does say that the car can be charged to eighty percent within half an hour with fast charging. It is unclear how much power the battery will be charged with. The MG also gets a 2500W-V2L port, which allows users to connect external devices to the battery, such as an electric bicycle.

The trunk space of the 5 Electric is 578 liters. When the rear seats are folded down, there is 1456 liters of space. The car itself is 4,544 meters long, 1,811 meters wide and 1,513 meters high. The wheelbase is 2,665 meters. The station wagon can be supplied with a tow bar, with which 500 kg can be towed. The nose weight may not exceed 50 kilograms. The roof can handle a maximum weight of 75 kilograms.

In addition to the station wagon, MG announces a C-segment SUV. MG calls the Marvel R Electric a luxury model with a focus on performance. This SUV also gets a WLTP range of ‘more than’ four hundred kilometers, support for a three-phase charger, fast charging and a V2L port. The Marvel R Electric must also be able to charge up to eighty percent quickly within thirty minutes. MG says the SUV will have an internal heat pump to allow faster charging at lower outside temperatures.

Unlike the station wagon, the SUV gets three engines; one on the front axle and two on the rear axle. Together, these deliver a maximum of 288 hp and 665 Nm of torque. With the three engines, the Marvel R Electric should be able to sprint from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is a maximum of 200 km/h.

The trunk of the SUV is smaller than the station wagon, with 357 liters. When the rear seats are folded down, the space becomes 1396 liters. The SUV is 4,674 meters long, 1,919 meters wide and 1,618 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.8 meters. The Marvel R Electric can pull 750kg more than the station wagon. In the interior, the driver gets two screens; a 12.3″ instrument cluster and a 19.4″ infotainment touchscreen.

MG does not yet say how much the station wagon or the SUV should cost. The MG5 Electric will be delivered in Europe from October this year. The Marvel R Electric will be available in Europe from May. Later, the SUV will also be available as a cheaper version without a motor on the front axle. This one also gets a frunk with space for 150 liters.
