Mercedes-Benz Trucks announces the eActros 600, a ‘long-distance truck’ with a range of up to 500 kilometers. The truck uses a 600kWh battery. The eActros 600 will be sold from this year, but will not go into production until the end of 2024.

The German car manufacturer focused on the development of the eActros 600 in their own words strongly on the aerodynamics of the cabin. For the updated design, Mercedes-Benz Trucks removed most of the protruding parts, including the mirrors, which were replaced with cameras. Partly because of this, the air resistance coefficient of the cabin has been reduced by 9 percent, according to the brand. The so-called ProCabin is also released for regular trucks of the brand.

The battery of the eActros 600 uses lithium iron phosphate cell technology and actually consists of three battery packs of 207kWh capacity each. According to the brand, this system can be charged with 400kW based on the CCS standard. The megawatt charging system should also be released later, with which the battery can be charged with roughly one megawatt. Customers must order this and it will only be installed in the truck at a later time. Thanks to this technology, the battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent within half an hour.

The battery system supplies energy to the 800V-eAs drive system with two electric motors, among other things. According to Mercedes, this happens with a continuous power of 400kW or a temporary peak power of 600kW. The eActros 600 should be able to transport around 22 tonnes of goods with a standard trailer, which equates to a gross vehicle weight of up to 44 tonnes.
