Lenovo will certify its entire line of workstations in the ThinkPad P-series and ThinkStation line for Linux. The company promises to test every model and configuration with Ubuntu LTS and Red Hat Enterprise.

According to Lenovo, certifying the entire portfolio of the ThinkPad P-series and ThinkStations for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu LTS will lead to an “effortless Linux experience.”

The company will work to have the workstations run natively with the Linux operating systems, providing support such as security patches, hardware drivers and bios optimizations. In addition, the promise is that drivers for devices will be integrated into the Linux kernel.

Lenovo claims that a standard offering that removes the barrier to deploying enterprise hardware with Linux is in high demand. The company has been certifying certain hardware for Linux distributions for some time, but so far these have only involved a limited number of products. For example, Lenovo recently started selling certain ThinkPads with Fedora.
